Our Philosophy
At W.J. Cowee, We Focus on Three Simple Goals
Quality & Innovation
Environmental Responsibility
Community Care & Involvement
At W.J. Cowee we strive to be good citizens in every respect. We make a product of the highest possible quality that our customers can depend on time and time again. We know our reputation depends on each and every pick, stake or designer stone we ship from our plant, so we make sure we can stand behind every product with pride and confidence. We stay attuned to the changing needs of professional floral designers, looking for new and innovative ways to support you and help extend your creativity.
We are also deeply committed to creating those products in the most environmentally friendly way possible. We purchase our timber from select suppliers who practice environmentally responsible forest management. We recycle virtually all of our wood scrap to provide our facility with efficient steam and energy. Finally, our picks and stakes are completely biodegradable, and all our dyes are non-toxic and environmentally safe.
We also care about the people in our community. In 2005, we established the Cowee Program, a rigorous academic honors program at our local high school for students interested in business and manufacturing. Our company believes that empowering tomorrow’s work force through education will keep the United States strong and competitive in our global economy.
The 2005 program was designed to challenge students with an interest in mechanical and industrial engineering. Students gained a working knowledge of engineering, finance, and manufacturing, which they then applied to a case study focusing on a thermodynamic issue in the production of Cowee products at Cowee’s Berlin, NY facility.
The 2006 program focused on manufacturing, the global economy and international trade. Students in the 2006 program studied a range of topics such as currency exchange, transportation and distribution logistics, trade barriers and legal issues, marketplace differences, and international economic factors. With a broad understanding of the global marketplace, students then created a plan for launching Cowee products internationally. Their presentations were broadcast on our local public radio station, WAMC, as part of their Youth Media Project, and can be heard at www.wamcstudenttownmeetings.org.
